Training & Events

We appreciate the effort and time it takes for you to take a day or two out from your schedule to attend professional development events. With that in mind, we endeavour to make all our workshops pleasant events for you. We choose quality venues and offer full-day catering with a sit-down lunch (usually a hot and cold buffet is on offer). We know it’s nice to have something special when you make the time to come to an event. We want to give you that little bit of extra care and attention. Book early to avoid disappointment as most of or workshop cater for a maximum of 20-25 people to allow for smaller, more comfortable group discussions and more individual attention. The retreat however, will take 15 people only.

      Therapist Self-Care Winter Retreat : July 2019

      July 26 @ 9:30 am - July 27 @ 4:00 pm

      $720

      FULLY BOOKED.

This retreat, run over 2-days in a peaceful setting in Bundanoon, provides participants with an opportunity to go a little deeper into what it means to take ‘care’ of yourself.  We’ll focus upon personal and professional self-reflection and engage in activities & practices designed to facilitate healing and restoration.

The retreat will provides a great opportunity to connect with like-minded colleagues, access peer support, relax and reflect upon your own level of professional ‘burnout’, self-care practices and any emotional/psychological barriers to self-care.

Research suggests that some of the biggest predictors of negative emotional outcomes like burnout and ’empathy fatigue’ are actually factors internal to the therapist (such as schemas and other beliefs that drive the way we practice).

Topics and areas of focus over the 2 days include:

      • a review of burnout, empathic distress & a reflection upon your own personal risk
      • therapist schemas, schema-related work-stress and work-life decisions
      • therapist inner critics or parent modes (‘Guilt-inducing parent’ as particularly influential for therapists)
      • schema healing, personal re-parenting (Vulnerable child work)
      • generating “metta” for self; self-compassion practices & compassionate responding in clinical practice
      • ‘In-session’ and ‘out-of-session’ self-care practices

There will also be various meditation and body restorative practices interwoven amongst the retreat learning material and the experiential exercises (i.e., mindfulness & metta meditations; light & gentle yoga sessions with an experienced yoga teacher on both days).

This retreat is limited to 15-18 participants so that we have a comfortable group feel and group members can get to know each other better, in a relaxed quiet space.
